BenQ concept mobile phone

The latest concept phone from BenQ is yet another touchscreen device but this strives to find a balance between the need for a large screen and traditional input pads. Designed by Product Visionaries, BenQ’s design house, the phone comes up with a slider that lets you bring up the traditional phone pad when required.

When not needed, you slide it back and reveal a large display better suited for multimedia functions like watching videos or movies.

Pantech Concept Phones make an appearance at CTIA

Seeing all of these Pantech concept phones in public is as rare as a understandable sentence coming from Ozzy Osbourne’s mouth. Meaning it almost never happens. Visitors of the CTIA conference were lucky enough to see a showcase of these concepts. Pantech says that not only is it rare for these phones to be shown together in public, but they aren’t together much period. We’re happy they are getting a chance to see their friends.

The phones themselves are an eccentric mix, but all cooler than any other phone on the market now. It’s rare when you see a concept reach he consumer floor. We guess because of the cost, but we dream of being able to get one of these eventually. Pictured are a few of our favorites.

New UBiQUiO Pocket PC coming in June

UBiQUiO may not be as popular as other brand but they will be releasing a new Pocket PC phone this summer, the 503G. It features a QWERTY Keyboard layout similar to the Palm Treo or Motorola Q, but makes the switch to Windows Mobile 6, and is accompanied a 520MHz Intel processor .

Also notable is a two-megapixel camera and the use of HSDPA broadband, which should allow download speeds up to 3.6Mbps. Other connection options include Bluetooth 1.2 and 802.11b/g WiFi. Memory meanwhile features 64MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM, with a microSD slot expanding storage by up to 2GB. The 503G will launch in England on June 20th for £395  ($777).

New LG Shine with Mobile TV

The LG Shine has been a top-selling phone for LG since its release last year. The Shine is a great looking designer phone, which means its features aren’t all that great. LG have decided to rectify this, though, with two new LG Shine models, both of which come with mobile TV.

The LG Shine TV Folder (LG-LB2500) is, as you can probably guess, a folder (or clamshell) design, while the LG Shine TV Slide (LG-SB630/KB6300/ LB6300) is a slider (the clue’s in the name - no, really!) that’s just 14mm thin.

Both LG Shines come with a 2.2″ screen, 2 megapixel camera and 1GB memory.

Nokia 7088 L’Amour CDMA Phone Unveiled

Nokia 7088 make its debut  after inspired by the L’Amour Collection. bringing sophistication to the CDMA market. The Nokia 7088 is not only the first CDMA model in the popular L’Amour Collection, but it is also the first to apply this collection’s design to a sliding configuration.

The Nokia 7088 draws attention to its jewel-like select key and sculpted directional keypad set into a metallic frame. Leather-inspired textures are found on front and back surfaces of the 7088, further accentuating the balance between technology and nature.

A dedicated key makes it easy to activate the integrated video recorder and camera with LED flash, allowing captured images and video clips to be enjoyed on the large 128 x 160 px color display. A two-way speakerphone, voice recorder and calendar feature make the 7088 productive, while the built-in mobile browser can be used to access information on the go.

The Nokia 7088 is expected to be available in selected markets in Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Africa, China and Latin America during the 2nd quarter of 2007.

Nokia 5070, a full featured handset Cellphone

Nokia 5070 has everything that the mobile social set needs. With just a few keystrokes, friends’ contact information can be accessed and messages quickly composed and delivered. When a quick voice message is more convenient, the Nokia 5070 offers the option to send off quick voice messages via Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging. And of course, the built-in-cameras can snap pictures of friends, weekend trips or any of life’s amusing moments and then share via MMS.

With an integrated FM radio, a stereo headset, pre-installed java games such as Sudoku, a built in web browser, and more the Nokia 5070 is perfect for today’s always on consumers. MP3 ringtones are at hand to ensure that each time it rings, the Nokia 5070 can reflect its owner’s style, mood or music taste. Additionally, wallpapers and themes can also be downloaded to give the Nokia 5070 even more of a personalized touch.

The Nokia 5070 has talk time up to 3.5 hours and the standby time is up to 12 days and is available in two colors, red or blue. The Nokia 5070 will be available in the second quarter of 2007 with an estimated retail price of EUR 100.

LG VX9400 TV phone

The new LG VX9400 TV phone was launched on Verizon Wireless. It has been presented by LG on CTIA conference and now it’s the second MediaFLO mobile TV handset of the Verizon Wireless. The LG is very proud of their VX9400, it has an unique feature of changing the screen orientation to landscape and is designed for working with V Cast TV, that is available only in select markets, but it’s becoming more and more popular and so more common.

The QVGA screen with 262k colors provides a good image quality while Bluetooth with A2DP stereo support allows you to use modern wireless headphones. Optionally it has a standard 1.3-megapixel camera and microSD card slot.

Because of their TV technology, the device will be an exclusive proposal from Verizon Wireless being sold for 199.99$ with a 2-year contract.

Sony NV-U92T is extreme slim

Sony’s new NV-U92T portable navigation device is an extremely slim GPS navigation system, measuring a mere 2cm in depth. Features include a lovely 4.8″ ultra-wide touchscreen display, gesture command support .

It has a 2GB of internal memory with a Memory Stick slot for memory expansion options, a TMC receiver, and Position Plus technology that ensures accurate, uninterrupted routing despite having a temporary loss of GPS signal - definitely nifty feature to have when traveling under a bridge or between tall buildings. Pricing and availability details are still unknown.

Free T-Mobile HotSpot access for Sony PSPs

Considering that Sony mylo owners were granted a year of free access to T-Mobile’s HotSpot network over four months ago, the newly announced six-month offer for the PSP is a great example of a “too little, too late” promotion in action.

In any case, if you want to “unleash the power of your PSP through thrilling online gaming,” just update your firmware (it’s up to version 3.3 already; my husband and I are still clinging to 1.5), find one of the 8,400+ HotSpot locations across the country, select the “Use Wireless HotSpot” option from Settings menu, and follow the instruction to get online.
